The Order of Things - Need • Feeling • Behaviour Working backwards: • The BEHAVIOUR is communication, it's the child 'telling you something'.• Something doesn't FEEL well-right for the child, and they can't put it into words• There's a physiological NEED that requires addressing so that the child can feel safe, connected and calm.Once we know this, we know that the child isn't 'just having us on'. And once we know THAT we shift our view of the child, which makes all the difference in the quality of our connection with the child. As Dr. Stuart Shanker reminds us: "See a child differently. See a different child". So they are not being 'manipulative' 'having you on' 'trying to outwit you' - they have a need for your heart energy in that moment. That's the energy with which to approach unmet needs.#seeachilddifferentlyseeadifferentchild #behaviouriscommunication #heartenergy ... See MoreSee Less
