MEET UP MONTHLY

We host a monthly meet up for parents, carers, course participants and course alumni on the second Monday of every month. This is an opportunity for our members to share a cuppa and a catch up and be inspired by guest speakers. Originally held at Derrymount Special School.

DR WENN LAWSON – comes to Nottingham!

We are delighted to welcome (for a long awaited return visit to Nottingham) Dr Wenn Lawson, for a special seminar event at Broadway Media Centre on MONDAY 20th MAY, 11am.

Dr Wenn (PhD) an autistic lecturer, psychologist, researcher, advocate, writer and poet has passionately shared his professional and personal knowledge re: Autism, for 25 years. He has written and/or contributed to over 20 books and many papers.

He is a tutor for the University of Birmingham’s Masters in Autism course, participant with the autism Co-Operative Research centre (ACRC) Australia, member of the ‘I CAN’ board, Australia, residing on the editorial board for the journal AUTISM IN ADULTHOOD. Dr Wenn consults for the South Australian Government, is a family man with autistic and non-autistic children and grand-children. In 2017 he presented to the United Nations on matters of Autism and ageing.

An Audience with Dr Wenn Lawson is an event designed for parents, carers, adults on the autistic spectrum and for education, health and care professionals.

Dr Wenn will be presenting stories from his life and sharing strategies to help autistic individuals.

Following his presentation there will be a Q & A session.

Breakfast Club

Breakfast Club is an opportunity for our friendly group of parents/carers to meet in different venues (that offer affordable breakfasts) We welcome all parents/carers of children/adults with additional needs  – please share widely – all are welcome.

Include but not limited to:

  • Mental Health and Autism
  • Workshops with Speakers
  • Events with Speakers

Bespoke Staff training to meet the needs of social enterprises, charities, educational providers, health services, social services and care providers.

Training includes but not limited to:

  • Peer led learning events for service providers with families of disabled people in the community
  • Sensory modulation awareness workshops
  • Events delivered by specialist speakers and trainers
  • Training the service providers to deliver relevant and helpful support
  • Raising community awareness of the experiences of socially isolated/ socially excluded groups

  • Providing parents and families with necessary tools and support to help manage challenging home lives
